Puppy Preschool
Dog training, behaviour and puppy preschool
Training and socialisation is such an important part of the development of your new puppy, and puppy preschool is a great starting point in your dog’s training. Berry Veterinary Clinic runs regular puppy preschool classes, in which we introduce new canine family members to socialisation in a safe environment, encouraging the development of confident and happy dogs later in life.
Services & treatments
Early socialisation
Dogs have a socialisation window which runs approximately from 6 to 16 weeks. During this time whatever experiences your puppy has it will assume are normal, so it is a critically important stage of life. Speak to our vets regarding what options they recommend for socialising your dog and what milestones are important in your dog’s training and socialisation.
These classes also support owners with the latest and best information and guidance in regards to puppy training, behaviour management, and preventative health. We strongly recommend our puppy preschool to all young puppies to set your dog training and behaviour on the right track for life.
Typically puppy preschool runs in month long blocks on a Thursday evening from 6.15pm for an hour, dates are dependent on demand but classes are running all the time. Please contact the clinic to arrange a booking.
Behavioural problems
Whilst prevention is better than a cure, behavioural problems are a common aspect of veterinary medicine and a frequent issue for our patients, with dogs commonly suffering from anxiety disorders. Behavioural problems are the most likely cause for dogs to be surrendered in Australia each year, accounting for two thirds of all dogs that are surrendered.
Our vets have undertaken extensive additional training and have a keen interest in behavioural medicine. We work closely with local dog trainers to help correct problem behaviours and undertake home visits and consultations frequently to resolve issues.
These consultations are quite involved, so please call and book in for a behavioural assessment if you are experiencing problems with your dog’s behaviour or training and we can come up with a tailored solution.
